If the washing machine isn't working properly, particularly if there isn't enough water coming into the drum, do the following:

1. turn off the hot and cold water using the faucets attached to the pipes over the washer
2. using a pliers, unscrew the red and blue hoses connected to the washer. usually the blue one is the culprit.
3. There is a mesh screen filter between the hose and the washer. Sometimes it comes out, sometimes it gets stuck on the washer side of the connection, in which case get it out with a pliers or something else.
4. Clean the mesh screen, it is often full of debris. This is what causes the problem.
5. Replace everything. Tighten the hose with pliers - not too tight. Turn the water back on. If leaking, tighten the hose.

If the dryer isn't drying:

1. Check the lint screen
2. Are you sure you're using the best setting? Don't assume you are. Read the manual.
3. While the dryer is on, go outside and put your hand in front of the dryer vent. The air should be hot and humid. If it is, the dryer is working.
